SUMMARY:Impact investing in the energy transition
DESCRIPTION:Dive into how impact investing is shaking up the energy transition!\n\n\nThe climate crisis is one of the foremost environmental challenges facing us – and certainly the one that receives the most attention. The primary driver of this crisis – our dependency on fossil fuels – was to be tackled by undertaking a global energy transition; where we change our energy mix to utilize renewables instead. However\, with the US administration questioning the factuality of this crisis and pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement\, it would seem that this transition is at risk of being derailed. \nOr is that fear misplaced? \n \nGlobally\, the share of renewables as the source of our energy continues to grow\, and some analysts claim that China – the largest global CO2 emitter – has peaked in emissions\, thanks to years of aggressively ramping up its own renewable capacity. Could it be that the energy transition has hit the tipping point already\, or we are celebrating victory too soon? \nJoin us as we ask these questions to the experts who work actively in this sector\, and can share the facts from the ground: \n\nWhat is the current state of the energy transition\, especially in the EU and the Netherlands?\nWhere are investments needed? And where are the bottlenecks?\nDoes positioning these investments as being impact generating support fundraising?\nWhat is the likely evolution of the energy sector?\n\n \nIntroduction: Giulia Rapisarda – Net Impact Amsterdam\, CBRE Investment Management \nModerator: Hatim Baheranwala – Co-founder\, Treety \n \nSpeakers: \n\nJeremy Ruis – Investment manager\, Triodos Investment Management\nDaphne Pit – Founder\, Pit pure power

SUMMARY:Shaping a Sustainable Future - The Storytelling Behind Sustainable Action
DESCRIPTION:Join this event to hear stories from various NGOs on WHAT actions they take and HOW they tell their stories to make a lasting impact.\n\n\nIn a world increasingly shaped by data\, policies\, and scientific reports\, storytelling remains one of the most powerful tools for driving sustainable change. While facts inform\, stories inspire. They humanize complex issues like climate change\, biodiversity loss\, and social inequality\, making them relatable and emotionally resonant. Storytelling bridges the gap between knowledge and action by connecting people to the real-world impacts of unsustainable practices—and the hope embedded in sustainable solutions. \nNet Impact Amsterdam proudly welcomes you to an inspiring gathering of sustainability professionals\, each showcasing their unique appraoch to driving positive change and leveraging the power of storytelling to do so. \nMireille Wille (Think Big Act Now) will present her take on how to bring the topic of climate change closer to people’s minds and hearts by focusing on the individual impact that everyone can have. \nPrunelle Girardeau (Imagine 5) will share a story from the Imagine5’s magazine and speak to the importance of storytelling that fuels imagination and hope. \nBram Karst (Greenpeace) will take us behind the scenes of Greenpeace’s aviation campaign\, sharing how it has evolved over the years and the impact it continues to make. \nAfter the presentations\, join us for a dynamic reflection session where speakers will dive deeper into the storytelling considerations behind their messages. \nAbout Net Impact Amsterdam \nNet Impact Amsterdam is a diverse community of impact-driven professionals who actively use its influence to steer decision-makers and peers towards long-term positive impact on the environment and society. It is run by volunteers who host regular events and programmes for knowledge sharing and networking across the local sustainability community.

SUMMARY:Unraveling complexity to accelerate systems change
DESCRIPTION:Join POLDER\, SustainaLab\, UvA and Net Impact Amsterdam to understand and leverage complex system dynamics to drive impact at scale!\n\n\nHow can we change our world for the better? \nChange is difficult. This is largely due to the fact that our economies and societies consist of intransparent\, dynamic\, complex systems. Making an impact requires us to navigate these systems and find the levers where the smallest intervention can drive fundamental change. \nPOLDER (Policy Decision-support and Evidence-based Reasoning) researches complex systems and develops modelling tools that enable us to understand and influence them. They are located at the SustainaLab\, who have kindly volunteered to host us for this event. \nDuring this unique workshop POLDER will share their methodology with the changemakers in the Net Impact Amsterdam community. The objectives are: \n\nGive you a general understanding of how to model complex systems\nEquip you to apply the framework within your own domain to drive greater impact\nDiscover new applications and potential research collaboration opportunities\n\nA hands-on workshop will be organised where use cases provided by the community (so think of use cases you would like to submit!) will be modelled in groups to understand the system dynamics and levers for change. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and connect with like-minded professionals in the field. See you there! \nAgenda \n\n16-16.30: Walk-in with coffee and tea\n16.30-17.10: Introduction to POLDER\, Sustainalab and complex system dynamics modelling\n17.10-18.10: Hands-on systems modelling workshop\n18.10-18.30: Reflection and closing\n18.30 onwards: Drinks at the nearby Cafe Restaurant Polder\n\nAbout POLDER \nPOLDER\, an acronym for Policy Decision-support and Evidence-based Reasoning\, is a research initiative led by the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Amsterdam. We are a community of researchers and associated partners working with complexity theory and computational modelling to support policymakers. For our research and education we mobilize researchers from the UvA\, and beyond\, to form interdisciplinary teams. \nAbout SustainaLab \nSustainaLab is a physical space that facilitates collaboration. It forms an ecosystem focusing on integral sustainable development. From the scientific base of the University of Amsterdam\, SustainaLab enables cross-fertilisation between companies\, governments\, NGOs\, citizens and academia.

SUMMARY:Amsterdam Sustainable Urban Development Cycling Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a bike tour around Amsterdam focusing on sustainable development initiatives in the city!\n\n\nRemarkable journey through old and new neighborhoods \nJoin us for a fun and educational cycling tour around Amsterdam with public housing\, urban planning and real estate development expert\, Eric Amory. \nStarting in Amsterdam’s Nieuwemarkt\, the tour will venture through different neighborhoods to look into the past and future. How did Amsterdam develop and take shape the way it did? What were the social and environmental forces that manifested through bricks and mortar? What can people working in the built environment learn from the past? We will explore these questions and more. \nMr. Emory will cover spatial planning and Architecture of Amsterdam after 1900. Starting in the lesser-known areas of the historical center\, we will learn about the international influences that nearly turned Amsterdam into an American style car-centric city\, and the social protests that stopped these plans from materializing. We will also venture into newer development areas in Amsterdam Oost and Noord. \n\n\nLogistics \nAll participants should bring their own bicycles and be physically capable of cycling for at least four hours (with many stops along the way). The group will stop about half way through the tour for a drink and small snack. \n\n\nQuestions \nPlease don’t hesitate to get in contact with Net Impact Amsterdam should you have any questions!

SUMMARY:Climate Action Simulation: How do we build a net zero world?
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to explore solutions to the climate crisis through a role-playing game that simulates a UN summit.\n\n\nHow do we reach net zero fast enough to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees? Should we improve energy efficiency or plant forests? Tax fossil fuels or electrify transport? Promote plant-based diets or invest in carbon removal technologies? \nJoin us for an interactive session where we will explore all these questions with the help of the En-ROADS climate action simulator\, developed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan Sustainability. \nWe will set up a mock UN climate emergency summit where you will be assigned one of a few roles: head of an industry giant\, food company\, or energy provider\, climate activist or a leader of a small island nation at risk of submergence through sea-level rise. \nThe goal of the summit is to develop a global policy that will keep global warming within 1.5 degrees — the threshold set by the Paris Agreement. The delegates will negotiate to make sure the policy is both realistic and fair. \nAgenda: \n\nDoors open: 6:30 pm\nWelcome & introduction: 7:00 – 7:10 pm\nClimate Action Simulation with two rounds of negotiations: 7:10 – 9:10 pm\nDebriefing discussion & reflection: 9:10 – 9:30 pm\nNetworking drinks: 9:30 – 10:00 pm\n\nVenue: OBA Prinsenzaal\, Oosterdokskade 143\, 1011 DL Amsterdam \nThe speaker \nAnna Sycheva\, cofounder of the Living Lab Change Agency and certified En-ROADS climate ambassador. \nAnna has run 90 climate action simulations for business schools\, food companies\, oil & gas\, energy providers\, and banks. \nAbout Living Lab Change Agency \nLiving Lab Change Agency creates impact by engaging people in meaningful conversations on a range of sustainability topics: climate action\, circular economy\, diversity & inclusion and more. Our events help participants to explore the system behind a socio-economic challenge and find solutions that work in the long run. \nAbout Net Impact Amsterdam \nNet Impact Amsterdam is a diverse community of impact-driven professionals who actively use its influence to steer decision-makers and peers towards long-term positive impact on the environment and society. SUMMARY:Accelerating the use of Bio-based materials in Real Estate
DESCRIPTION:Today\, the construction industry accounts for ~40% of global CO2. An eyewatering amount of this comes from upstream production of building materials\, with steel and concrete being the worst offenders.  \n\n\n\nAs more real estate developers take into account full lifecycle emissions\, the scale of embodied carbon in building materials is becoming better understood\, and thereby a bigger priority for sustainability and impact management. Bio-based materials can be a solution.  \n\n\n\nWhat are the bottlenecks and opportunities of using greener alternatives?  \n\n\n\nJoin us at the Triodos Bank office in Zeist\,  one of the most sustainable building in Europe for an evening of learning\, engagement\, and lively debates. Experts from Triodos\, Built by Nature\, Metabolic\, PGGM and more dive into these questions and host an interactive panel discussion to explore further. Program followed by networking drinks. \n\n\n\nAbout The Experts \n\n\n\n\nTriodos: A leading expert in sustainable banking since 1980 and the first Dutch lender to launch a mortgage with interest rates linked to the choice of materials for the home.\n\n\n\nBuilt by Nature: A network and accelerator fund with a mission to accelerate Europe’s timber building transformation.\n\n\n\nPGGM: One of the Netherlands largest pension fund service provider\, managing ~227 billion euros in pension assets for ~4.3 million participants.\n\n\n\nMetabolic: Metabolic is a consulting and venture-building company that uses systems thinking to tackle major sustainability challenges. Its overarching mission is to transition the global economy to a fundamentally sustainable – and circular – state.\n\n\n\n\nAbout Net Impact Amsterdam \n\n\n\nNet Impact Amsterdam is a diverse community of impact-driven professionals who actively use its influence to steer decision-makers and peers towards long-term positive impact on the environment and society. SUMMARY:Impact Strategy - Pragmatism vs Idealism
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lively panel discussion on sustainability and the solutions needed to drive meaningful progress.Join us for an interactive and thought-provoking event inspired by the YouTube show Middle Ground. We will be bring together two diverse panels to discuss loaded questions on sustainability and its solutions. The first panel features sustainability experts\, researchers\, and consultants\, while the second panel is made up of startup founders\, both sustainability-driven and non-sustainability-driven. Both panels will challenge\, agree or disagree on the questions. Join us for an evening of learning\, engagement\, and lively debate followed by a short introduction to the uPledge campaign “Plant A Seed” and a session of drinks and networking! The location is provided by Startupbootcamp. Examples of the type of questions that will be asked by the moderator: How should sustainable development be balanced against economic growth? Can both be achieved simultaneously? Will sustainability be driven by large corporations or do we need grassroots efforts to drive meaningful change? Will it be the pragmatists or idealists that truly change the world?uPledge will wrap up the event by sharing how impact investing could be the intersection between economic growth and the driver for meeting diverse impact goals with an introduction to our Plant A Seed Campaign and for attendees to see what kind of startups we are enrolling on the form. About uPledge uPledge is an impact-investing movement that focuses on increasing the participation of non-investors through Gamification and Regtech. Join us to back or invest in sustainable startups that you know can bring a positive impact to the world we live in. uPledge – Impact Investing Made Simple 🥳 About Net Impact Amsterdam Net Impact Amsterdam is a diverse community of impact-driven professionals who actively use its influence to steer decision-makers and peers towards long-term positive impact on the environment and society.
