Impact From Home #31 | The aftermath of COP26

17 December 2021 @ 12:00 - 13:00 CET

Last month we interviewed Sandra Guzmán on her way to COP, so we decided to come back together and get her view the outcomes.

Join us for a debriefing of COP26 and a summary of what to look for in 2022

“Each COP is a step in the process of achieving long-term goals, so it’s hard to think that a single summit will solve all the problems associated with climate change. So rather than simply classifying it as a successful or not, I think it would be valuable to reflect together on the positive and negative aspects that came out from this COP. As well as what will be important to keep our eyes on in the coming year.”

This session will be kindly hosted by Camilla de Nardis.

COP 26 in a nutshell

The main objective of COP26 was to agree on a ‘Paris rulebook’ and ‘keep the 1.5°C goal alive’. The main takeaway was the ‘Glasgow Climate Pact’, in addition a series of other new commitments (such as cutting methane emissions, accelerating coal phaseout, and stopping deforestation). According to optimistic calculations of Climate Action Tracker, the aggregate of these pledges put us on a path to 1.8°C warming by the end of the century (if all plans are followed through). The Glasgow Climate Pact urges countries to submit new emission reduction pledges before next year’s COP to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt).
